This is Mom (aka Kathy Buskirk) on MarriagePR (I’m Sara’s mom and Ned’s mom #2).

Today, I’ll be asking the question, “Why do you think your marriage has lasted?”

I’ll be talking to family and friends who have been married no less than 48 years. I think this is quite an accomplishment, with ½ of all marriages proclaiming, till DIVORCE do we part!

These marriages appear to be standing or have stood, the test of time………..are there any common threads running through these marriages?

“The grass isn’t greener on the other side of the fence. The grass is greener, WHERE it is watered.”

Hello,

I love the comment. I’ve been married for 38 years and on the day we married, neither of us had a shred of doubt about whether marrying each other was the right thing to do. So, I’d like to add, that if either of you have a niggling feeling that it’s not quite right, don’t get married in the first place!

Beautifly done, my lovely wife. We are so fortunate to have gotten the gift of “marriage” education from our family and friends.

So, until death do us part….no we’ll still be together in heaven (Dear Lord, no bossing me around in heaven!)

This is a beautiful piece, but I’m left wondering: what about dysfunctional families, such as when one parent is an alcoholic or mentally ill? At what point is it okay to walk away from the marriage “for the children”?

thank you for putting so much effort and time into this podcast. i listened to the entire thing.. some of the stories brought tears to my eyes. the lessons i learned from this podcast made a deep impression on my view of marriage and choosing wisely.

i sincerely appreciate the time you took to make this piece. it truly touched my heart.
